Summary

  • In the AnTuTu benchmark, the Dimensity 9400 processor achieves 2,394,594 points.
  • Its 8-core ARM CPU drives great performance, achieving around 6,979 points in Geekbench's multi-core test.
  • MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is an all-around performer that needs good thermals to bring the best out of it.

Notes

We benchmarked the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor running on the Vivo X200.

Released in 2024, Dimensity 9400 is a flagship processor that trades blows with the best SoCs in the industry. Its performance is almost on par with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and leaves no stone unturned in the GPU department as well. To look at exactly how the Dimensity 9400 performs, here are comprehensive Dimensity 9400 benchmarks and specifications to help you understand.

MediaTek Dimensity 9400 AnTuTu Score

GPU
1,114,640
Memory

UX

On AnTuTu, the Dimensity 9400 delivers an impressive score of 2,394,594 points. While it's not as fast as the competition, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, it's pretty close. The processor performs well across the board but falls a little short in Memory. Besides, it also gets an excellent 1,114,640 in GPU, which is almost on par with the 8 Elite.

The Cortex-A925 cores are doing the heavy lifting here, scoring 562,120 points in AnTuTu. The 9400 did heat up a bit during benchmarks, hitting over 43°C, which does lead to thermal throttling, affecting the end score. We will get to thermal throttling in a bit. But overall, the Dimensity 9400 is definitely worthy of the flagship chipset name.

MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Geekbench Score

Geekbench 6 CPU
MediaTek Dimensity 9400
Single-core
2,195
Multi-core
6,979

Despite the processor scoring well in the CPU department in AnTuTu, Geekbench results reveal that the Dimensity 9400 struggles to cross 7,000 points in multi-core and scores 6,979. That's quite a bit of a dip considering the SoC did well in the other benchmark.

While 2,195 and 6,979 in single and multi-core are great scores still, the root cause as to why Dimensity 9400 doesn't perform as well as the 8 Elite is due to the Arm CPU's inability to sustain performance for a longer period. It offers short bursts of quick performance but loses steam pretty fast.

62%

The CPU throttling test gives us a clearer picture of what's happening with the Dimensity 9400. Under sustained workload, the Dimensity 9400 on the Vivo X200 drops its performance quite fast and starts to throttle to counter excessive heat, almost instantly. This suggests that while the CPU on the 9400 is powerful, the poor thermal management of the device causes it to throttle.

Verdict

The Dimensity 9400 is an excellent performer that should have no trouble handling anything you throw at it. Arm's powerful Cortex-A925 cores, combined with the impressive Immortalis GPU, strike a chord, performing on par with or sometimes slightly better than the competition.

However, while the cores are capable of reaching great peak numbers, the lacklustre thermal performance means the Dimensity 9400 cannot always perform at its best. Therefore, if you're after incredibly great sustained performance, you may face a few hiccups. All in all, the Dimensity 9400-powered phones are a great buy.
