Summary

  • In AnTuTu, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 scored 2,104,905 while the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite achieved 2,759,190.

We benchmarked the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 on the iQOO Neo 10, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite on the Realme GT 7 Pro.

While Qualcomm rebranded Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the chipmaker later released the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, featuring Kryo CPU cores and the Adreno 825 GPU. The Snapdragon 8 Elite remains Qualcomm's true flagship, but the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is also positioned with flagship aspirations. Let's start with the AnTuTu benchmark first. In this test, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 scored 2,104,905 points while the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite achieved 2,759,190 points. In effect, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is around 31% faster than the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. However, when we look at the scores individually, Snapdragon 8 Elite's CPU leads by 20% and the GPU leads by 27% in the AnTuTu test.

In the Geekbench 6 CPU test, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 scored 2,158 in single-core and 6,989 in multi-core. The Snapdragon 8 Elite, on the other hand, did much better, scoring 3,033 in single-core and 9,271 in multi-core. Here, the CPU performance difference is quite substantial. The Snapdragon 8 Elite's Oryon CPU is 40% faster in single-core tasks than the Kryo CPU in 8s Gen 4. And in multi-threaded tasks, the 8 Elite leads by over 32%, which shows that the Nuvia-designed Oryon CPU is miles ahead of the Kryo CPU.

Now, to evaluate the sustained CPU performance of both chipsets, we ran the 15-minute CPU Throttling test. Here, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 throttled to 80% of its maximum performance while the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite stood at 73%. The 8s Gen 4 sustained its peak CPU performance marginally better than the 8 Elite. However, keep in mind that the 8 Elite operates at a much higher frequency and delivers significantly faster performance.

Now, to evaluate the GPU performance, we benchmarked both chipsets on the intensive 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress test. In this benchmark, the Adreno 830 GPU inside the Snapdragon 8 Elite posted over double the score of the 8s Gen 4. Even with a lower stability, its GPU fared better than the Adreno 825 GPU. It means that Snapdragon 8 Elite's GPU is 2x faster than the 8s Gen 4's GPU.

We see the same trend in the 3DMark Solar Bay test, which evaluates Ray Tracing prowess. In ray tracing performance, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is around 146% faster while delivering substantially better FPS.

And the same continues in the demanding 3DMark Steel Nomad Light test. Here, the Adreno 830 GPU delivers an impressive 140% performance gain, with more than double the FPS.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 vs 8 Elite: Speedometer 3.0 Score

Finally, in the Speedometer 3.0 test which tests the CPU performance on web applications, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 scored 12.5 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite scored 21.4 points. During web browsing, the 8 Elite is 71% faster than the 8s Gen 4, offering better fluidity and responsiveness.

The Verdict

To sum up, there is simply no comparison between the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The performance difference is night and day. In the CPU department, the Oryon-powered Snapdragon 8 Elite is 30-40% faster, and the Adreno 830 GPU is a powerhouse, outranking the 8s Gen 4 by a wide margin. If you are looking for a flagship processor in 2025, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is an outright choice.
