What Is SIM Binding? Rules, How It Works and Everything You Need to KnowAs per the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), messaging apps have to build SIM binding into their apps as the rules will become operational on January 1, 2027. Once it's live, WhatsApp and other messaging apps will only work when the SIM tied to your registered number is active and present in the same phone. The DoT says it will curb scams from outside India using Indian numbers while policy experts question whether it can work and how much it will break.
