Google has started rolling out Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 to compatible Pixel phones, roughly two weeks after Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3. The latest update is primarily focused on fixing bugs and polishing the software, while also introducing a few notable interface changes.
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 Update: What's New
One of the more visible changes is a new Notification Intelligence section in Settings. It brings together existing AI-powered notification features, including Notification Summaries, Notification Organiser and Notification Cooldown, under a single menu.
These features themselves aren't new, but Google has now given them a dedicated section and branding on Pixel phones.
Google has also added a dedicated Status Bar settings page, allowing users to control which notification icons appear. Options include showing all notification icons, priority notifications only, or no notification icons. There are also additional controls for system indicators such as the mute, vibration and battery percentage icons.
Other smaller changes include a new Voice Broadcast Quick Settings tile, updated badges in Wallpaper & style and tweaks to the long-press menu.
The Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 update addresses a sizeable list of bugs as well. For starters, Google has fixed a thermal management bug that could cause devices to overheat and unexpectedly reboot.
Additionally, problems affecting gesture navigation, Pixel Launcher search, Bluetooth call audio, the Recents interface and notification shade behaviour have also been addressed.
Beta 4 also fixes an issue where the 80% battery limit could result in unusually long charging times during the final 2% of charging. There are further fixes for screen-recording audio conflicts, dark-mode visibility, USB-C XR glasses, smart-glasses 3D mode, WebGL crashes and Face Unlock failures in low-light conditions.
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 also includes new security restrictions against call-forwarding fraud. Apps can no longer silently execute certain call-forwarding USSD codes using only the CALL_PHONE permission, while manually entered call-forwarding codes now trigger an OS-level confirmation prompt.
With this release, Android 17 QPR2 has also reached Platform Stability, meaning its APIs and app-facing behaviours are now largely final.
Interested users can enrol their compatible Google device in the Android Beta Program. Once that's done, they can simply head over to Settings -> System -> Software updates on the device to download and install the update.
For now, the Pixel 11 series is not compatible with this Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 update, although Google says dedicated support is coming "soon." The update is currently available for supported devices, including the Google Pixel 6a through the Pixel 10 series, Pixel Fold models and Pixel Tablet.
Android 17 QPR2 is expected to exit beta and arrive as a stable update in December 2026.
