Microsoft is continuously enhancing the synergy between Windows 11 and Android devices. The Redmond giant is now working on a set of new features in its Link to Windows app for Windows, which could allow Android phone users to remotely shut down or restart their PCs.
The upcoming features were first spotted by Windows Latest in their recent APK teardown of the latest Link to Windows app. The new code strings found in the app suggest Microsoft is working to introduce a comprehensive suite of remote power commands.
Currently, the Link to Windows Android companion app only permits users to remotely lock their computer. The upcoming versions could allow users to do the following:
- Shut down
- Restart
- Put the PC to sleep
- Update and restart
- Update and shut down
To prevent accidental data loss or connectivity drops, the Link to Windows app could be equipped with several built-in prompt warnings before executing these power commands.

For starters, it may alert and caution users about unsaved progress and warn users that the connection to Phone Link will be severed if they choose to put the PC to sleep.
Besides, it will also alert users about the power state during an active system update. The app will acknowledge that a restart is necessary to finish the installation process, but will also remind users that remote saving is impossible before asking for final confirmation to proceed.
While these capabilities are still in the prototyping phase, they highlight that Microsoft is far from done bridging the gap between Android and Windows ecosystems. More information about these features should surface as they get closer to launch, so stay tuned.
