Apple is working on launching its first-ever foldable, but its official name is still highly debated. While most early rumours have pointed toward the iPhone Fold moniker, others have suggested iPhone Ultra. Well, recent reports suggest the latter might be accurate.

Apple Employees Are Reportedly Using the iPhone Ultra Name

Adding weight to the naming rumours, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman responded to an X post by tech analyst Max Weinbach regarding whether the "Ultra" moniker fits Apple's branding ethos. In response, Gurman noted that "Everyone calls it the Ultra internally", while also adding that the final marketing decisions remain to be seen.

While the "Ultra" name seems to be popular among Apple employees, it still doesn't confirm the retail title. Apple operates under strict internal secrecy where a device's name is kept tightly under wraps. The final name is often restricted to higher-level marketing teams until it's announced.

Therefore, the employees may simply be following what most of the world calls the smartphone right now. Key engineering and hardware teams frequently rely on placeholder titles or external leaks to refer to unreleased projects.

At the end of the day, Apple may choose to embrace the iPhone Ultra branding or call it something completely different.

There have been rumours about the iPhone Ultra being delayed due to supply chain issues. However, most still point to a September 2026 launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max smartphones. In the event, Apple is also expected to unveil refreshed AirPods Pro.

The iPhone Fold, aka the iPhone Ultra, is expected to feature a passport-shaped form factor with a 7.8-inch internal foldable creaseless OLED display and a 5.49-inch cover screen. The smartphone could feature a dual-camera setup at the back consisting of wide and ultrawide snappers.

Besides, it's expected to arrive with Apple's A20 Pro chipset, a 4,900mAh battery and a side-mounted Touch ID sensor for faster unlocks. The liquid-metal hinge is designed to minimise the crease, and we know that the displays could be supplied by Samsung.

More information about the iPhone Ultra should be revealed as we inch closer to launch, so stay tuned.
