Skullcandy and Bose have collaborated on audio tuning for several headphones and earbuds over the years. Bose has also lent its audio expertise to brands like Noise with the Noise Master Buds 2 and Motorola. Now, Bose is taking their partnership a step further by acquiring Skullcandy outright.
In an official press release, Bose Corporation has announced that it will acquire Skullcandy from a fund managed by Mill Road Capital, a private investment firm based in Connecticut, USA.
However, neither company has disclosed how much Bose is paying for Skullcandy or any other financial terms. After the deal, Skullcandy will become part of Bose’s Premium Consumer Audio division.
That being said, Skullcandy will continue to operate as a separate brand with its own identity. The company will also keep its headquarters in Park City, Utah, USA.

So, what changes for Skullcandy buyers? Bose says it will provide technical and commercial resources to support Skullcandy’s product roadmap. In simple terms, future Skullcandy headphones and earbuds could get more Bose technology.
At the same time, Skullcandy should keep its fun, youth-focused style and pricing. Bose CEO Lila Snyder said Bose is growing through its own products, technology partnerships and a growing portfolio of brands. She added that being privately held lets Bose make “bold, long-term investments” in Skullcandy.
For more than 60 years, Bose has been committed to delivering incredible audio experiences however and wherever people choose to listen. As we work to reach even more people, we’re expanding how we do that, not only through Bose products, but through technology partnerships and a growing portfolio of brands. As a privately held company, we have the freedom to make bold, long-term investments in opportunities we believe in, and Skullcandy is a great example of that. They have an established, thriving brand, and together we see tremendous opportunity to create new products and experiences and reach more consumers around the world.
— Lila Snyder, Chief Executive Officer at Bose
Meanwhile, Skullcandy CEO Brian Garofalow called the deal a win for Skullcandy and its fans. He noted that the brand started on a chairlift in Park City over 20 years ago.
Skullcandy also sells its earbuds and headphones in India, so Indian buyers could see more Bose-tuned Skullcandy products in the future. However, neither company has shared any India-specific plans yet.
