WhatsApp and EPFO are making it easier for users to track their retirement savings. Announced during the organisation's 74th Foundation Day, the WhatsApp service now lets members carry out PF services, including checking their balance, accessing passbook details and more.
EPFO's New WhatsApp Service Brings PF Passbook and Transaction Details
The new verified WhatsApp service allows members to instantly check their current PF balance, access passbook details, and review their last five account transactions. Users no longer need to navigate to the official web portal or visit physical offices for inquiries.

Additionally, the chat service will provide customised guidance for individuals fulfilling requirements under the PMVBRY initiative. Alongside this integration, the service goes a step further with an automated settlement system for inactive accounts as part of the new EPFO 3.0 framework.
Verified subscribers whose dormant accounts hold up to Rs 1,000 will no longer have to manually file a withdrawal claim. The organisation will automatically process these settlements and transfer the funds directly to users.
Thanks to this, the Ministry of Labour expects clearance of roughly one lakh inactive accounts, returning a total of Rs 5 crore in unclaimed dues to users. It's worth noting that the automatic clearance will only take place for subscribers with Aadhaar-verified inoperative accounts.
We tested the service on WhatsApp on its official number +91- 87964 41800, and it took a while to work. Initially, the bot was stuck in a loop and took forever to respond, but it eventually worked. This could be due to the current load on the bot or because the services are being integrated as we speak.

The experience should be more streamlined as time passes, but those looking to check their PF balance or use the services can use the UMANG app or the EPFO Member Portal for the time being. Users can also text 7738299899 to avail basic services.
