Garena has launched Free Fire India, bringing its popular battle royale game back to the country more than four years after it was banned. The India-specific version is available to download for free on Android and iOS, with localised content, parental controls and features designed to encourage responsible gaming.
How to Download Free Fire India
Free Fire India is available as a standalone app on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Players can search for the game on their respective app stores and download the official version published by Garena.

The game retains the familiar battle royale experience, allowing players to compete against opponents, team up with friends and participate in in-game events.
Garena has also optimised the game to support a broad range of smartphones, including devices with different hardware specifications.
However, the game includes in-app purchases, allowing players to spend money on items and other in-game content.

Parental Controls and Other Safety Features
Garena has introduced several measures to encourage responsible gaming in Free Fire India. These include parental consent requirements for players under 18, regular break reminders, playtime limits and spending caps.
The company has also highlighted enhanced data protection measures for the India-specific version, including hosting game data on servers within the country.
These changes are intended to address local requirements and provide a more controlled gaming experience.
Additionally, Garena plans to work with partners across India to support the country's esports ecosystem. Its initiatives will focus on creating opportunities for aspiring players and teams through grassroots, collegiate and international competitions.

For context, the original Free Fire was banned in India in February 2022 alongside several other apps amid national security and data-related concerns. However, Free Fire MAX, a separate version of the game with upgraded graphics, remained available to Indian players.
Garena announced Free Fire India in August 2023 and initially scheduled its launch for September 5 that year. However, the company postponed the release shortly before the planned date.
With the launch of the India-specific version, Garena is making another attempt to reconnect with its Indian player base while introducing localised content and additional safety measures.
