Google appears to be prepping a significant facelift for its AI assistant and its app on mobile. Following a series of minor additions and improvements to the app over the years, the Gemini app could finally get a bold and colourful design overhaul with a cleaner and more vibrant user interface.
A Gemini Revamp Is On The Horizon
A new APK teardown by Android Authority has revealed a comprehensive overhaul of the Gemini Android interface in version 17.16.21. The most immediate changes appear to be in the overall colour palette, as Google is pivoting from the white, boring current backdrop to gradient Blue hues.

This change carries over to dark mode users, too, where the app will rely on a distinct, software background colour, instead of an all-black interface. Complementing the new colour scheme is a push toward minimalism as the icons have now been minimalised and the overall UI feels less cluttered.
The New Chat and Share buttons have also been redesigned. And beyond pure aesthetics, Google is also cleaning up the app, starting with shifting the account picker to the bottom of the sidebar, rather than having it on the top right corner.

The visual changes also trickle down to Gemini Live. One of the most notable ones is that the interface ditches the wide animation that spans the bottom of the screen for an animated voice button. Additionally, Gemini Live will also finally support light and dark mode backgrounds, moving away from its current dark-only colour scheme.
Considering this design change is a very early spotting and comes from an APK teardown, we are unaware of when the changes will roll out. Considering Google's pace, this should take at least a few weeks to a few months to come out. Until then, stay tuned.
