At Google I/O 2026 today, the company launched a standalone AI Studio app for Android and it brings vibe coding capabilities straight to your phone. The app is now available on the Play Store and is open for pre-registration as the rollout begins. With the new AI Studio app, Google is aiming for users to create their next app on the phone itself.

AI Studio Lets You Build Real Apps on Your Android Phone

Google is pitching "Go from shower thought to real app in minutes" with the AI Studio app. Instead of sitting at a computer, you can describe what you want using your voice or text and the AI Studio app builds it right away. The better you describe your app, the more functional the app will be.

Note that the AI Studio website has been available for a few years now (mostly for developers), but the same functionality is being packaged as a mobile app and being targeted at general users. The app offers a curated gallery of apps made by other creators and you can tap on any of them to instantly remix it with a different theme, layout or new features.

As you build, the AI Studio app also generates unique icons and personalities for your apps so they look finished from day one. Not to mention, building a complex app can take a while and that is where "Active Progress" comes in. You do not have to sit and watch a loading screen while the app is built.

Just start the process, lock your phone and go about your day. The app keeps working in the background and sends you a notification the moment it's done and ready to use.

Apart from that, the sharing model is clearly built for phones. You can send a link to anyone and they can use your app instantly in a web browser, no matter what device they are using. Google is also offering a seamless syncing between mobile and desktop apps, so you can start a project on your morning commute and pick it up on your computer later.

Overall, it looks like Google is going after Claude Artifacts and Replit with its dedicated AI Studio mobile app. You can pre-register for the AI Studio app on the Google Play Store via the link below.
