In a massive push for AI in India, Google has announced that it is offering 12 months of Google AI Plus subscription for free to Indian students. The initiative also includes access to AI study tools across Gemini and Search.
Google AI Plus Free For Indian Students for a Year
The official Google India blog post has confirmed Google AI Plus subscription for 1 year, worth Rs 4,000, will be given for free to eligible students in India. Students can check their eligibility and claim the offer through Google's student page at one.google.com/ai-student before December 31, 2026.

As it is evident from the above image, eligible students will get Google AI Plus for 12 months at no extra cost. Clicking on the "Get student offer" button will redirect users to a SheerID verification page. Once relevant details are filled, the offer will be active once verification is complete.
Moreover, there is a second offer as well. Students who want ad-free streaming on YouTube can get a bundle of Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium at up to 70% off. This will also require student status ID verification through SheerID and will remain valid for up to 4 years.
However, do note that a valid payment method is required at sign-up. Students will need to add Credit Card details during the sign-up process and they will be charged at Rs 399 per month once the trial period is over. However, users will be able to cancel their subscription anytime, thus avoiding making payments.

Google AI Plus Benefits and Features
Since Google is positioning this as a student-first initiative, the Google AI Plus plan offers the usual set of benefits as well as access to student-specific tools. Eligible students get access to Gemini Omni, 2x higher usage limits in Gemini and 400 GB of cloud storage across Photos, Drive and Gmail.

In the Gemini app, students will have access to a dedicated "student hub" designed to keep coursework organised. This includes a study notebooks feature, which uses diagnostic quizzes to work out what a student already understands and where the gaps are.
The AI can then generate bite-sized study plans built around those gaps. With Gemini Live, students will be able to talk through Deep Research reports to catch up on study materials and have 1v1 coursework preparations.
On the Search side, students will be able to generate interactive visuals to make difficult concepts easier to grasp, take a practice quiz on any subject including standardised tests and work through problems step-by-step using Google Lens. Search is also getting notebooks for organising projects and the ability to create custom study files.
