Google has expanded its Google Pay ecosystem in India by launching two new products - Ask Google Pay and Flex SBI Card. The former is a personalised AI financial assistant powered by Google Gemini. The latter is a RuPay and VISA credit card which users can apply from right within the Google Pay app.
Ask Google Pay Brings Gemini-Powered Financial Guidance
Starting with Ask Google Pay, it is positioned as an opt-in experience, allowing users to unlock conversational AI capabilities within Google Pay. The feature uses Google's Gemini models and is designed to act as a personal AI finance assistant.
As is evident from the above image, users can invoke Ask Google Pay to understand spending patterns, get personalised savings tips and explore curated offers inside Google Pay. The experience will add a conversational layer to the results, meaning users will also be able to ask follow-up questions to Ask Google Pay.
Moreover, the AI assistant will also break down complex financial jargon in simple, plain language for ease of understanding. Users can get simplified details regarding SIP concepts, credit scores, compound interest and different tax regimes in India.
A notable aspect of Ask Google Pay is that it supports both voice and text inputs. Users will be able to interact with the AI in 10 different Indian languages. Google has made it clear that Ask Google Pay keeps financial data entirely under the user's control. The feature is positioned as an educational tool and users are discouraged from treating Ask Google Pay as a financial advisor.

Flex SBI Credit Card Builds on India's RuPay Network
Moving on, the next product from Google is the Flex SBI Card. This is an extension of the Flex by Google credit card, which launched last year. The new one is offered via a partnership with SBI. Flex SBI Card is offered via VISA and is RuPay-enabled to facilitate credit card payments via UPI.
Google Pay users can directly apply for the Flex SBI Card from the app itself. The blog post says that users will be able to avail the credit card in a few minutes without the need for any physical paperwork.
Every Flex SBI credit card transaction will earn "Stars", which are instantly redeemable via the Google Pay app. Each Star is equivalent to Re 1 and supports both instant and EMI transactions.
Moreover, Flex card users will also get access to the Google AI Plus plan at 50% off when opting for the 12-month plan. It currently costs Rs 4,000 for a full year. Hence, Flex SBI card users can get it for Rs 2,000 only.
Aside from that, Flex users will also be eligible for discounts across the entire range of Pixel phones and other Google hardware products like Pixel Watches and Pixel Buds. Flex SBI Card registrations are currently live on the Google Pay app for interested users.
