If you use Google Photos, you know that Highlight Videos inside Google Photos let you turn a set of photos into a short video with music and transitions. However, the process is currently manual and an upcoming Google feature might automate adding music to highlight videos.
Spotted by the folks over at Android Authority, Google appears to be working on a feature called Beat Match, which has been spotted inside Google Photos v7.93.0 via an APK teardown.
Beat Match will reportedly let users remove the entire manual process of adding music to Highlight Videos. Users will need to only select the music track of their choice and choose the Beat Match option to let Google Photos automatically adjust the timing of every photo so the transitions land on the song's beats.
The idea is similar to third-party video editing apps like CapCut and Canva. Both apps have been offering automatic beat syncing for years and many users rely on them for this exact purpose. However, it looks like Google wants Photos to be the one-stop shop for video and photo editing.
Moving on, Google is not forcing the feature on anyone. Beat Match will come with a "No matching" option, which, once enabled, will let users skip beat matching entirely.
This is handy in cases when users want to set their own timings, exactly as they do now. The report notes that Google Photos will let users fine-tune the beat-matched result afterwards.
That said, Beat Match is not live yet and since the feature has been extracted via an APK teardown, it is unclear when Google will make it live for everyone. So, stay tuned.
