Summary

  • Honor has teased a futuristic Robot Phone concept featuring a motorised, AI-powered camera arm.
  • The phone's camera arm can move around and track subjects on its own.
  • Honor's Robot Phone is expected to debut at MWC 2026.

Honor has offered a glimpse at a radical new concept phone called the Robot Phone. This is a smartphone with a mechanical, self-aware camera that can move all on its own.

A self-aware phone with a robotic twist

The brand teased the concept phone through promo videos and posts, hinting at a futuristic phone that's unlike anything we've seen. As per the teaser, the Robot Phone will feature a motorised camera module that pops out of the phone's rear side and moves independently through a robotic arm.

Additionally, this module is shown tracking subjects, scanning objects and even performing playful actions like waving or interacting with its surroundings. There seems to be an AI-driven awareness of context with the Robot Phone in general.

The camera unit is seen enclosed within a circular glass housing of sorts and can rotate freely and possibly adjust angles for shots automatically. The Robot Phone also features a USB-C port on the module itself, which could allow for modular accessories or charging. Honor describes the device as offering the "mobility of a robot" and the "intelligence of AI," hinting at an ambitious vision where a smartphone camera acts more like a proper companion.

While Honor hasn't confirmed the exact specifications of the Robot Phone, reports suggest that the company plans to unveil it at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2026 in Barcelona.

As exciting as it sounds, it does raise questions about the practicality and power efficiency of it all. Besides, the Robot Phone does try to bridge the gap between phones and robots with a new category of "self-aware" phones.
