HP is making a long-awaited return to the tablet business with its newest HP OmniPad 12 Android tablet. This 2-in-1 device is designed to function as both a tablet and a laptop, and is aimed toward students, first-time users and institutions looking for a reliable and portable Android device.
HP OmniPad 12 Specifications and Features
In an attempt to "support modern learning, collaboration and everyday productivity" and "combine the productivity of a laptop with the portability of a tablet," the tablet comes with a detachable keyboard.
This brings a 2-in-1 format for users to take advantage of, transitioning effortlessly "from a touch-first tablet experience to laptop-style productivity". Unattached from its keyboard, the tablet unit weighs 600 grams.
The HP OmniPad 12 sports a 12-inch 2K screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 90 Hz refresh rate and a screen-to-body ratio of 85%. The display covers 100% of the sRGB colour space and sports a peak brightness of 400 nits.
The multimedia experience is supported by dual microphones and a quad-speaker system featuring DTS Ultra tuning.

Under the hood, the tablet is powered by a Snapdragon SM6475Q processor. It's a variant of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 but with 6 cores instead of 8 and a maximum clock speed of 2.4 GHz. Running the show on the software side is Android 16, but the brand hasn't highlighted how long the tablet will be supported for.
It is paired with 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB of UFS storage. Users needing additional space can use the built-in microSD card support, which can be expanded up to 1TB.
Optics-wise, the HP OmniPad 12 features a 13 MP rear camera combined with an 8 MP front-facing camera for video calls.

HP has equipped the tablet with a 31 Wh battery, which the brand claims can deliver up to 18 hours of continuous use. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and a USB 2.0 Type-C port.
