Huawei has finally launched the Mate 80 series in China, which introduces four models. It also includes a new "Pro Max" variant for the first time. With that said, here's a quick look at what's new with the Huawei Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design.
Huawei Mate 80 Series Specifications and Features
Kicking things off with the design, the Mate 80 series brings a familiar-looking chassis with some tweaks here and there. All the phones resemble their last-gen counterparts a lot, but the overall form factor is now flat. From the back glass to the front and the frame, the Mate 80 lineup features a flat design with rounded corners.
The camera module carries the same large circular deco design at the top-middle section. However, they are now cold-carved for a seamless transition between the glass and the island.

At the front, all four phones feature the same 1.5K 120 Hz LTPO 10-bit OLED panel with up to 8,000 nits of peak brightness, protected by the second-generation Huawei Kunlun Glass. However, there are some big differences in the quality of these panels.
For instance, the Mate 80 and the Mate 80 Pro feature a 6.75-inch display, while the Mate 80 Pro Max and the Mate 80 RS feature a 6.9-inch screen. The Pro Max and the RS models also use a Dual Stacked Layer Tandem OLED design, which makes use of two sheets of OLED panels to achieve higher resolution, brightness, efficiency and panel longevity.

Under the hood, the standard Mate 80 gets the older Kirin 9020 processor. Meanwhile, the Mate 80 Pro gains the Kirin 9030 (12 GB RAM) and Kirin 9030 Pro (16 GB RAM) chipsets, respectively. Both the Mate 80 Pro Max and the Mate 80 RS gain the Kirin 9030 Pro across all variants. Moreover, in terms of RAM and storage, the Mate 80 series features a whopping 20 GB RAM and 1 TB storage in the top-of-the-line model.
Software-wise, Huawei has shipped the Mate 80 series with HarmonyOS 6.0 out of the box. It brings some nifty features and AI tools like lockscreen emojis, AI Emotion Detection, AI Teleportation, AI One Flick and more.

Now, coming to the cameras, this is one area where the Huawei Mate 80 series vastly differs. For instance, the Mate 80 RS and the 80 Pro Max are the only models which feature a quad rear camera system. They bring a 50 MP main camera, a 40 MP ultra-wide lens, a 50 MP telephoto camera and a 50 MP periscope telephoto sensor.
The Mate 80 and the 80 Pro, on the other hand, feature a triple camera setup with the same 50 MP main camera and 40 MP ultra-wide angle lens. However, the Mate 80 has a downgraded 12 MP periscope lens compared to the 48 MP macro cum telephoto camera on the Pro model.
Selfie camera-wise, all four models bring a 13 MP front camera. Only the Pro Max and the RS models gain a 3D face recognition infrared sensor at the front as well.

Coming to the battery of the smartphones, the Mate 80 and the Mate 80 Pro feature a 5,750mAh capacity. The Pro Max and the RS model take it a notch up with a 6,000mAh cell. In terms of charging, only the Mate 80 gets 80W fast USB-C charging and 50W wireless charging. All the other models gain 100W USB-C charging support and also 80W wireless charging.
Apart from that, the Mate 80 series brings an official IP68 + IP69 rating, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, GPS, NFC, dual 5G SIM support and more. Only the RS model is also capable of sporting dual e-SIMs, satellite communication and low-signal range transmission.
