WhatsApp is rolling out a major update that frees iPads from one of their biggest limitations. The device could previously only be used as a companion device, but the new update lets users finally register and set up a brand-new account directly on their iPads.
WhatsApp for iPad version 26.28.75 is now rolling out widely. The update introduces new features where iPad users can now sign into their WhatsApp accounts by simply entering a phone number and verifying the code. The tablet now functions as a fully independent primary device for all messaging and calling needs.
For those unaware, users with cellular versions of supported iPads weren't allowed to register their iPads as the main device. Rather, they had to rely on their main smartphones and set up iPads as companion devices. That changes with this update, as users will no longer have to worry about being signed out abruptly.
Beyond this, WhatsApp is also rolling out improvements to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Besides a redesigned interface, drivers can effortlessly manage messages and reply using their vehicle's dashboard, while keeping their eyes on the road.
WhatsApp rolled out group video call support for the web not too long ago, and the new update expands features like better document management. The brand has partnered with Adobe Acrobat, allowing users to open the file in the chat and annotate directly within the active chat window. This eliminates the need to download the document locally first.
Finally, after WhatsApp introduced usernames, expanding its social features, the app now also integrates Apple Music and Spotify to make social updates more engaging. Users can now share the exact tracks they're listening to straight to their status, allowing friends to tap the update and listen along instantly.
That said, it's worth noting that these features are gradually rolling out across both Android and iOS. All you need to do is head over to the Play Store or the App Store and update your WhatsApp to the latest version.
