Summary

  • OnePlus is looking to enter the gaming tablet space with a new compact offering.
  • It could feature a 3K display with up to 165Hz refresh rate.
  • The tablet to use a gamer-centric back design, moving away from the current clean and minimal look.

OnePlus recently launched the Tab 3 as a 13.2-inch machine with flagship level specifications like the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. And now, it looks like the Chinese electronics brand will apply the "powerful" mantra but inside a "compact" chassis.

Reliable leaker Smart Pikachu has claimed that OnePlus is exploring a gamer-centric tablet that will have an 8-inch screen and offer specs like 3K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. The device will also have a gamer-centric design that is a clear shift from the brand's current clean and minimal aesthetics.

That's all the leaker shared about this highly secretive OnePlus tablet. This is a pleasant development since a lot of fans had been asking from the brand for a tablet with a small footprint. And with the added gaming angle, it's set to rival the likes of Lenovo and Redmagic, who already have a solid reputation in the gaming tablet category. This is especially true in China, where these brands launch their products quite often.

The Redmagic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro launched in China recently with specs like a 9.06-inch 2.4K OLED display, Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, an 8,200mAh battery more. But what makes it a gaming tablet are features like a 165Hz refresh rate, 2000Hz of instant touch sampling rate, a dedicated cooling system and more.

So, we can expect the OnePlus tablet to sport some of these features as well. And if an OLED display is added to the mix, it will become the first OnePlus tablet to come with an OLED display. And quite possibly, at a premium price tag. However, all of these are just rumours and only time will tell how well do they materialise in reality.
