As a tech reviewer, a cluttered desk is my mortal enemy. No matter how neat I try to be with all the wires on my desk, it invariably ends up looking like Medusa’s hairdo. If the fear of getting wound up in them doesn’t turn me to stone, then the dread of snagged cables pulling my precious iPhones to the ground keeps me paralysed. It’s no way to live.

To gain some reprieve from all this mess, I finally caught up with the times and bought a wireless charger. And I must say, I’ve now caught the bug. My charger of choice was the PowerBug by Twelve South and I couldn’t have picked a better one.

PowerBug is a minimal, no-fuss charger with more than decent charging capability. Its 15W wireless charging was enough for me to juice up my phone without having to wait an eternity. 15W wireless may be too low for some. But it looks great while charging so I tend to just leave my phone attached.

Connecting it to the power outlet transforms it into a dock and support for MagSafe and Qi2 makes it all so ridiculously simple. Plug the PowerBug into the socket, attach the phone and voila! It's charging!

It has a USB-C PD port too, which gives a maximum of 35W of fast charging. And when you have two devices charging simultaneously, the power is split, with 15W for wireless and 20W for wired charging.

Though I didn’t realise it at first, support for charging two devices simultaneously came in quite handy. Being able to charge multiple devices from a single dock when all other nearby ports are occupied really was a convenience I didn’t know I needed.

My only concern before buying it was whether it heated up or not. Thankfully, I experienced no heating issues with the PowerBug charger, even when charging two devices at once.

PowerBug’s sleek design was another bonus. When the phone is attached, it literally looks like it’s levitating. Once I started using it on a daily basis, I truly realised its appeal. While the phone is docked and charging, I can FaceTime, stream movies, or just have it sit there looking pretty. It doubles up as a nightstand too and boy, do I feel spoilt.

After using the PowerBug wireless charger, I now have a newfound appreciation for gadgets that combine elegance and convenience so effortlessly. It may not hold a candle to some ultra-fast wireless chargers from Samsung, nor is it the cheapest wireless charger for the best iPhones out there.

But for its aesthetics and simplicity, it is now one of my favourite gadgets for all my wireless charging phones.
