Truecaller, one of the most popular caller ID services in India, is getting an AI makeover. The platform will now let users know why someone is calling alongside the name of the person. This new update is aimed at combating scam calls with the intent to protect the people of the country from scammers.
The new AI caller ID identification feature will make use of contextual insights to include AI summaries and comments. These messages will contain the intent behind the person calling below the name. The AI-generated identifiers will then be able to recognise spam calls, label businesses and identify the caller's intent.

Moreover, these AI classifications will be instantaneous, thanks to the AI's advanced models and a large pool of user data in the form of call feedback. With an estimated 450 million active users, the brand claims that the community actively flags a variety of calls, resulting in the AI accurately recognising different types of incoming calls.
Truecaller Global CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala believes that this new update will make users more vigilant and decide if it is safe to pick up a call or not.
Truecaller was built to solve this: not just to identify who’s calling, but to help you understand why. Is it someone from your network, a delivery, a business or a scam? Our AI uses real-time data and contextual signals to give you clarity the moment your phone rings, turning uncertainty into informed choice. Knowing ‘who’ is calling is only part of the story.”

Additionally, Truecaller claims that the AI is so advanced that it can identify and label numbers in real-time even when the phone is ringing. This means that for numbers which do not have a lot of community feedback to flag, the AI will be able to analyse the number and assign an appropriate ID to it.
That said, the new AI-powered caller ID identification feature is getting widely rolled out to both Android and iOS users of the Truecaller app.
