Vivo appears to be taking extra time to perfect the camera on its next Ultra flagship. A new leak claims that the company is testing three different periscope telephoto sensors for the Vivo X500 Ultra, suggesting that the final hardware is yet to be locked in.
Vivo X500 Ultra Could Arrive with a Larger 200 MP Telephoto Sensor
A new leak from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) claims that the Vivo X500 Ultra is currently being tested with three different 200 MP periscope camera options. All three sensors under consideration have different sizes: 1/1.12-inch, 1/1.3-inch and 1/1.4-inch.

DCS further claims that the large 1/1.12-inch sensor is the more "aggressive" choice, while the other two are being treated as "more balanced" options. For context, the Vivo X300 Ultra comes with a 200 MP Samsung HP0 telephoto camera with a 1.1.4-inch sensor size, which is the same as the third one under consideration for the X500 Ultra.
This implies that Vivo is actively weighing the pros and cons of each sensor before finalising which one to use in the X500 Ultra. A larger sensor, like the 1/1.12-inch one, will improve low-light photography while achieving closer DSLR-like portrait effects.

As for the 1/1.3-inch and 1/1.4-inch sensors, they are more realistic options since their choice will bring a balance between the periscope camera size, the camera bump protrusion and overall device thickness.
Moreover, in a previous leak, DCS reported that the Vivo X500 Ultra will likely miss out on a dedicated 10x periscope camera lens, which was also previously evaluated. The leak claimed that the brand has decided to keep a similar setup to the X300 Ultra.

Hence, with the new leak, it seems like Vivo is carrying forward with the 200 MP periscope + in-sensor zoom route, but hasn't decided upon the sensor size of the camera. Aside from that, no other detail about the Vivo X500 Ultra is known at the moment.
If we follow the Vivo X300 Ultra launch timeline, the Vivo X500 Ultra could debut in China by March 2027 and then hit global markets like India in Q2 2027. We will know more once the launch timeline nears. So, stay tuned.
