WhatsApp Beta for iOS Reveals Switch From Tenor to Klipy GIFs
Spotted by WABetaInfo in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.2.10.70 on TestFlight, WhatsApp could soon replace Tenor with Klipy. For those wondering why, the transition is a necessary response to Tenor's shutdown. The brand has announced that it will discontinue the service offered through its API by June 30, 2026.

Since Tenor has already stopped accepting new requests, WhatsApp is moving proactively to address the issue before the service goes offline. As for its impact on users, currently, WhatsApp divides GIF searches between two providers – GIPHY and Tenor.
Users who are currently served by Tenor will be migrated to Klipy and the transition is expected to be seamless and automatic. It requires no user action, but the only visible change will be the Klipy label appearing on sent GIFs.

Although WhatsApp could solely rely on GIPHY, relying on two providers ensures that the app could quickly fall back to one of the services if the other one suffers an outage. WABetaInfo suggests the feature is currently under development.
With the migration expected to deliver before the June 30, 2026, deadline, the move to Klipy should start reflecting in upcoming betas by the end of February 2026. Other platforms like Discord are also reportedly integrating Klipy.
Since the work on the iOS app is already underway, the team responsible for the Android app could soon set its course to add Klipy. We should hear more about that by the end of January 2026, so until then, stay tuned.
