Xiaomi has officially introduced its global smart home brand Mijia to India, marking a major expansion beyond smartphones and consumer electronics. The announcement comes as Xiaomi completes 12 years in the Indian market, having entered it back in 2014.
Xiaomi Associate Director of Marketing and PR, Sandeep Sarma, took to X to drop the announcement. Mijia, which translates to "Mi Home", becomes the third sub-brand under Xiaomi India, joining Redmi and Poco.

Going forward, smart home and lifestyle products in the country will carry the "Mijia by Xiaomi" branding while remaining part of Xiaomi's wider ecosystem.
This also aligns with the brand's "Human x Car x Home" strategy, which aims to create a connected ecosystem spanning Xiaomi phones, smart home devices and electric vehicles through HyperOS.
While Xiaomi has already established the "Human" side of the ecosystem in India with smartphones, tablets, wearables and Smart TVs, Mijia will now serve as the dedicated identity for its smart home products. "In H1, we have focused on the Human side of our ecosystem, we're prepping to go deeper on the Home side," Sandeep writes.

With the introduction of Mijia, Xiaomi has confirmed plans to strengthen its presence in existing categories such as air purifiers, while also expanding into the large home appliance segment in India.
Although the company has not announced specific products yet, it says more Mijia-branded launches are planned over the coming months. Xiaomi also intends to bring a wider range of its globally available smart home products to Indian consumers.
The expansion marks Xiaomi's biggest push into the home appliance market so far, putting it in direct competition with established brands such as Samsung and LG.
It's clear that by bringing Mijia to India, Xiaomi now wants to go beyond smartphones and become a bigger part of Indian homes with connected home appliances powered by HyperOS. Diversifying their portfolio this way makes a lot of sense, especially since the ongoing RAM crisis has shaken up the industry big time. Only time will tell how much this move benefits the tech giant.
