YouTube’s homepage has looked mostly the same for years, with a single feed and a row of topic chips at the top. Now, that’s changing, with YouTube rolling out a redesigned homepage on mobile and the biggest addition is custom feeds.
The official @UpdatesFromYT account has confirmed that YouTube will now let users build their own video feeds for different moods, topics or types of content. Instead of picking from fixed topic chips, users can just describe what they want to see and YouTube builds a feed around it.

YouTube says these feeds go beyond a simple keyword search. They also keep updating as new videos are uploaded, so the feed stays fresh. The saved feeds show up in the top bar for quick access and users will be able to edit or delete them anytime.
That said, there’s a limit on how many feeds users can save. For free viewers, YouTube will allow only up to 3 custom feeds, with desktop sync enabled. For Premium subscribers, they will be able to generate up to 8 custom feeds and also enjoy desktop sync.
How to Create a Custom Feed on YouTube
Once the feature is live, you can create a custom feed by following the steps below:
- Open the YouTube app and go to the Home tab.
- Tap the plus (+) button at the top of the homepage feeds.
- Describe the kind of videos you want to see, like a topic, a type of content or your mood.
- Save the feed. It will now appear in the top bar.
- To make changes, edit the feed’s original prompt or delete it.

Apart from custom feeds, YouTube has also redesigned the rest of the homepage on mobile with the following changes:
- Simpler top bar: The top bar now looks cleaner and less cluttered.
- Subscriptions in the top bar: Your Subscriptions now sit right at the top for faster access.
- New shortcuts: You get new shortcuts for Live and Music.
- Movies & TV shortcut: This appears if you have an active subscription to a supported service.
- No more topic chips: Custom feeds replace the old topic chips at the top of the homepage.
That said, YouTube has started rolling out custom feeds and the new homepage in the US first. To get it, users will need to be signed in with English as their language and have watch and search history turned on.
