The Oppo Find X9 Pro has one of the strongest cameras among the 2025 flagships. But I guess Oppo didn't want to stop at that, and so they dropped a teleconverter kit featuring a massive 3.28x external Hasselblad lens to pair with the already capable 200MP periscope lens. I took this kit across Delhi for a week, and after testing it in real shooting conditions, here’s my honest take on whether it’s worth buying.
A well-built attachment that makes me feel like a Pro
Oppo made this kit in partnership with Hasselblad, and it's a high-quality piece of attachment that securely fits on top of the Find X9 Pro. The kit comes with a magnetic case, which looks straight out of John Wick's cupboard, with a tactical pattern and rugged design. It acts as the base, where the rest of the things will be mounted.
Then there's the camera cover, which covers the rest of the cameras except the periscope. Finally, there's the lens itself, which feels as premium as any other attachment for a mirrorless camera. Putting the kit on the phone felt nothing short of a hitman preparing his sniper. At last, you end up with a bizarre-looking smartphone + DSLR setup.
The Teleconverter kit also features a tripod mount that attaches to the lens itself. It felt pretty awkward to use, so I left it in the box
An improvement or an expensive table weight?
After mounting everything and switching to the dedicated Hasselblad Teleconverter mode in the camera app, I instantly got fixed 10x, 20x, and 40x zoom options. I used it for almost a week, taking random photos at the office, and taking it out with me for a day at the cultural heritage of Delhi: Humayun's Tomb. I can't wait to show you the results any more, so here they are:
The Find X9 Pro's periscope already makes it one of the best camera mobile phones, but the teleconverter makes images noticeably sharper. The base 10x photos have incredible levels of detail, as you can see in the fur of the dog. It also did a great job capturing the fine textures on the monuments, which the phone alone couldn’t match.
Zooming further into 20x, the kit really shows its strength. Look how clearly you can see the intricate carvings and patterns of the tomb. Since the sun was about to set, I decided to capture the golden ball in the sky and came out with such a majestic shot that wouldn't be possible without this lens attachment.
At 40x, the details start to get softer around the subjects, and Oppo's aggressive AI correction starts to kick in. At this range, I had to keep my hands steady as a surgeon to capture a good shot, as a little shake produced some blurry results. Still, thanks to the Teleconverter kit, I managed to get some good photos.
Going further than 40x further smoothed the photos, and the AI-fication of the subjects took over. I spotted a pair of parrots mingling at the top of the dome and tried to capture the moment, but as you can tell, there is not much of the parrot visible after Oppo's AI touch-up.
The Find X9 Pro can zoom up to 120x, but the lens further pushes this to 200x. But I don't suggest doing that, as any image you take will only come out as an overprocessed AI slop.
Capture portraits that will make you blush
The thing that blew me away is how good portraits you can take with this Teleconverter kit. Even at 10x, you get some of the highly detailed, dreamy portraits with such a natural bokeh effect that is only possible from a DSLR or a mirrorless camera. Couple that with Oppo's excellent colours and processing, and you get some of the best portrait photos taken on a smartphone. Take a look for yourself.
Carrying this kit made me the camera guy at the office, with everyone flocking to me to take their photo. Every single one of those photos turned out so incredibly good that people have set it as their profile picture on their socials. So, for portraits alone, this kit genuinely feels special.
Takes dreamy photos, but a nightmare to use
As much as I have praised the Find X9 Pro's Teleconverter kit, I must admit that it has not been the best experience using it. First, the lens makes the phone top-heavy, and Oppo didn't supply a camera grip. So, it made it difficult to balance the phone every time I wanted to take a shot. I had to support the lens with my other hand to get a stable scenic image.
This is fine for those 10x or 20x photos, but I struggled to keep the phone from shaking while shooting at 40x or more. The kit includes a tripod stand that attaches to the lens instead of the phone, which leaves the phone hanging off a tiny mount. Any interaction with the screen throws off the balance, resulting in shaky photos. I don't get why Oppo didn't include a hand grip like Xiaomi did for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra's kit.
Does the Oppo Find X9 Pro Teleconverter kit make sense?
Oppo's Hasselblad Teleconverter kit is available for the Find X9 Pro for Rs 29,999. It's a high price to pay for a 30% bump in periscope camera quality. Plus, carrying a tripod to use this kit is a must. With all that setup, you might as well invest in an entry-level DSLR setup, which will last you longer.
But, if you were planning to get the Oppo Find X9 Pro, and want to take stunning portraits and zoomed photos that are ready to be shared on socials, then the kit could be worth it for you. As much fun as I have had with it, I have to admit that even I wouldn't be willing to drop that much cash on it. The Find X9 Pro is already capable enough to take stellar photos, and I am more than happy with them as it is.
