Apple has officially unveiled the AirTag 2, bringing meaningful upgrades to range, sound and overall findability. While the design remains familiar, the new AirTag focuses on improving real-world tracking performance, making it easier to locate misplaced items using Apple's Find My network.
Apple AirTag 2 Specifications and Features
At the heart of the AirTag 2 is the brand's second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip, which significantly improves Precision Finding. Apple says users can now locate items from up to 50% farther away compared to the original AirTag. Precision Finding continues to offer directional guidance, distance indicators and haptic feedback, but now works more reliably over longer distances.

The brand has also expanded Precision Finding beyond Apple iPhones and with AirTag 2, users can track lost items directly from the Apple Watch Series 9, Watch Ultra 2 and newer models.
Another practical upgrade comes in the form of a new, louder built-in speaker. Apple claims AirTag 2 is about 50% louder, allowing its alert sounds to be heard from nearly twice the distance. This should make it easier to locate items that are buried under cushions, inside bags or lost in noisy environments.
Like its predecessor, AirTag 2 relies on Apple's vast Find My Network, which uses nearby Apple devices to anonymously help locate items when they are out of Bluetooth range. The tracker also supports Item Location Sharing, a feature that allows users to temporarily share the location of an AirTag with trusted contacts or airlines, helping speed up the recovery of lost luggage.
Apple continues to emphasise privacy with AirTag 2, as location data remains end-to-end encrypted. The device also includes built-in protections to prevent unwanted tracking, ensuring users retain control over how their location information is used.

In addition, the iOS 26.2.1 update was also rolled out to bring support for AirTag 2 to iOS 26 supported devices.
