Apple has had a busy few weeks. John Ternus took over as Apple CEO from Tim Cook last month, and the iPhone Duo pre-orders start tomorrow. Now, ahead of that, the Cupertino brand has hit a massive milestone. The company has become only the second in history to end a trading day with a market value above $5 trillion.
Apple Closes Above $5 Trillion for the First Time
According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple shares closed at $342.96 on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. That gave the company a market capitalisation of $5.005 trillion (approx. Rs 478 lakh crore). This makes it the second company ever to close above $5 trillion, after Nvidia.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Apple has crossed the $5 trillion mark. The report states that Apple’s market value had gone above $5 trillion six times before. However, each time it was only during intraday trading and the stock dropped below the mark before the market closed.
This milestone comes just over a month after John Ternus became Apple’s CEO. Tim Cook is now Apple’s Executive Chairman. Since taking charge, Ternus has also been getting more hands-on with Apple product design.
However, Apple is still around $325 billion behind Nvidia. That said, the timing could work in Apple’s favour. The iPhone Duo goes up for pre-order on October 16 and hits stores on October 23. Apple will also report its Q4 2026 results on November 2, in John Ternus’ first earnings call as CEO.
We will know more about Apple's quarterly performance next month and the sales stats for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Do note that the earnings call will not account for the iPhone Duo or the new smart home gadgets like the Apple HomeView. They will be accounted for in Q1 2027. So, stay tuned.
