Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable smartphone, dubbed the iPhone Ultra, at its September 9, 2026 keynote alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Ahead of the launch, a new leak has revealed the iPhone Ultra colours, including a striking Red option that could mark the return of Apple’s discontinued colourway.
iPhone Ultra May Arrive in Three Colours
According to details shared by Evan Blass on X, Apple is preparing to release the iPhone Ultra in three distinct colourways – White, Black and Red. For those unaware, Apple phased out its (Product) Red colourway after launching the iPhone 14 series. The colours are in line with the previous iPhone Ultra render leaks.

Evan also posted renders of all the colourways, revealing the iPhone Ultra's back design. However, the images do seem to be AI-generated, with inconsistencies in the status bar. We can also see the old iOS 26 battery indicator design, whereas the iPhone Ultra is expected to arrive with iOS 27 features out of the box.
While Evan has a decent track record with leaks, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman was quick to dispute the Red colourway. He asserted that a red colourway is not in the works for the iPhone Ultra. He also added that the renders may have been generated on the basis of the rumoured Xiaomi 18 Fold.

Early expectations have consistently pointed toward a much more conservative colour scheme for Apple’s first foldable. The iPhone 18 Pro, on the other hand, is expected to feature a much more diverse lineup of colours, including Dark Cherry, Burgundy, Light Blue, Silver and Space Grey.
Offering overlapping red editions across both high-end models would be an unusual move for the brand. That said, while a Red iPhone Ultra might not be on the cards, we can take a moment to appreciate how good the foldable looks in Red. It reminds us of the OnePlus Open Apex Edition, but even brighter. Too bad Apple may be sticking with the usual.
The official iPhone 18 Pro launch event is just about two weeks away, where Apple is also expected to unveil the Apple Watch Series 12 and two AirPods 5s. With less than two weeks to go, more information about the products should be revealed as we inch closer to the launch, so stay tuned.
