Apple Pay may finally be coming to India and we might now know when. A listing that briefly appeared on the RBI’s website, along with references spotted across multiple Indian bank platforms, suggests Apple could launch its long-awaited payment service in the country as early as October 2026.
X user dsouza_adl27055 posted a screenshot of a page on RBI's official website listing the logos of all major payment apps in India, including Apple Pay with an asterisk. Right below the logo was the text "Launching in October 2026", seemingly confirming the wallet's arrival timeline in India.
The original page also confirmed that the platform will operate via Visa and Mastercard networks for tap-to-pay transactions, lacking any initial support for UPI at launch.
While the original post was deleted after a short while as users debated its authenticity, multiple other sources and banks have indirectly confirmed Apple Pay's arrival in India over the weekend.
For starters, the same user posted a screenshot of HDFC Bank's website showing the bank's AI chatbot EVA, providing step-by-step instructions for customers to set up Apple Pay using their HDFC cards.
A separate discovery on Reddit points to Axis Bank being on board as well. A user shared a screenshot displaying a complete Terms and Conditions page for linking Axis Bank debit and credit cards to Apple Wallet.
However, they also noted that Indian cards cannot be added yet, but the appearance of these legal terms strongly indicates that the backend infrastructure is ready for an imminent rollout.
Users have been waiting for Apple Pay's arrival in India for almost a decade at this point and it's great to see their patience bear fruit. Once Apple Pay rolls out, Apple users can tap-to-pay conveniently without the hassle of carrying their physical Debit and Credit cards around.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra foldable at the Apple Event on September 9, 2026. More about Apple Pay's arrival should be revealed at the event, so keep an eye out.
