After longstanding rumours about Apple Pay finally coming to India, we have an indirect official confirmation. Apple appears to be hiring for its Wallets and Payments infrastructure in India to lay the groundwork for a broader rollout.
According to a newly surfaced job posting, Apple is looking to hire a "Business Development Manager - Wallet, Payments and Commerce" based in Bengaluru. The post explicitly mentions Apple Pay, adding further weight.

The hiree will be managing strategic commercial negotiations and integrating key players across the financial sector, including acquiring banks, card issuers, and point-of-sale (POS) terminal vendors.
Interestingly, the JD also targets specific pillars of India's transaction network, including UPI. This comes as a surprise because initial rumours had suggested Apple Pay would skip UPI support. Perhaps it is to lay the groundwork for the network, with a broader release following later.
Lastly, the role will require close coordination with domestic payment regulators, merchants, and Apple's internal engineering, privacy, and legal divisions to ensure regional compliance.
Apple is expected to partner with leading Indian banks like ICICI, HDFC, and Axis Bank to support the launch and integrate Apple Pay into their platforms, providing a wider support network at launch.
This aligns perfectly with the recent rumours about the platform's availability in India. Recent reports from Mark Gurman, along with Apple Pay's listing on the RBI website for a potential October 2, 2026 launch, suggest Apple aficionados won't have to wait long.

More information about Apple Pay's India launch should be revealed as we transition into the following week, so stay tuned.
