Recently, Apple entered into a multi-year contract with Google to let Gemini power Siri's AI capabilities. However, the brand has not revealed exactly how Siri's renewed avatar will actually work. Now, a new Bloomberg report has commented on Siri's transition from a digital assistant to a full-blown AI chatbot.
Apple plans to turn Siri into your go-to AI chatbot
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reported that Apple's Gemini-powered Siri overhaul will involve its transition into an artificial intelligence chatbot. Codenamed Campos, the new Siri will be akin to the existing AI chat assistants like ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Perplexity.

It will be integrated across every Apple product, from the iPhone to the Macs and even iPads and Apple Watches. Users will be able to interact with the AI Siri via both voice and text inputs. Gurman claims that Apple will make this official at this year's WWDC event in June 2026. It could officially arrive with the iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 updates in September 2026.
This falls in line with an earlier report that outed some of the Gemini-powered Siri features. However, Gurman's revelation points to a renewed brand strategy. This is because Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, revealed back in June 2025 that the brand's goal is not make a chatbot but rather blend Siri with agentic capabilities.
Apple's job is to figure out the right experiences that make sense in the context of what we offer to customers and to make that technology. The features that you’re seeing in Apple Intelligence isn't a destination for us. There's no app on intelligence. [It’s about] making all the things you do every day better. It’s integrated so it’s there within reach whenever you need it in the way you need it with it being contextually relevant and having access to the tools necessary to accomplish what you want to accomplish at that moment.
So, it is clearly evident that with rising competitive pressure, Apple is now more than ever serious about bringing the much-awaited Siri upgrades. Gurman says that at launch, OpenAI will become the biggest competitor of Apple.
It will also give a head-to-head competition to Google Gemini. However, it is important to remember that Siri in 2026 will be Google Gemini in disguise. Hence, this year is an important one for Apple in general and for the future of Siri and Apple Intelligence in particular.
