Summary
- Apple and Google enter a multi-year collaboration deal for next gen Siri overhaul.
- The AI Foundation Models for Siri will be powered by Google Gemini.
- It is expected to bring improved Apple Intelligence features with a more personalised Siri in later part of 2026.
Ever since Apple unveiled Siri's Apple Intelligence-powered avatar back in 2024, it has been nothing short of a disaster. From underwhelming Apple Intelligence features to even the Cupertino brand attracting a lawsuit, it is fair to say that Apple and AI have had a tough relationship so far. Now, with Google Gemini entering the mix, iPhone users might finally gain the Siri they want and deserve.
Google Gemini will power Siri's AI capabilities
In a joint statement shared via the Google Blog post, Apple has confirmed that the next generation of Siri will be powered by Google Gemini. This will enable Apple Foundation Models to borrow Gemini models and cloud technology to bring the much-awaited upgrade to Apple Intelligence.

To achieve this, both Google and Apple have entered a multi-year collaboration deal, which will allow Siri to make use of Gemini's Large Language Model capabilities. As to how exactly this new overhaul will work, there is no word on that.
However, the post has mentioned that this new partnership will unlock "innovative new experiences for iPhone users." Apple Intelligence will also continue to run on Apple devices and adhere to the strict safety and privacy standards that the brand follows.
While there is no word on a specific timeline, the post mentions that the upgraded and more personalised Siri will go official in 2026 itself. We can expect a formal announcement and demo at the upcoming WWDC 2026 event. So, there's a high chance that Apple's Siri upgrade will come to iPhones as part of the iOS 26.4 update.
That said, this is the first formal acknowledgement of this new Siri and Google Gemini team-up since rumours about this started floating back in August 2025. Mark Gurman claimed back then that this new partnership would cost Apple $1 billion per year. Since the current post doesn't mention any figure, we don't know exactly how much the iPhone maker is burning to help Apple Intelligence rise from the ashes.
