Google I/O 2026 is happening right now, and Sundar Pichai just dropped one of the most significant Gemini announcements the company has made in a while. It is called Gemini Spark, turning the assistant into a personal AI agent that works on behalf of the user 24/7, fetching results and doing tasks, and is coming to both Android and iPhones in the US to Google Ultra subscribers next week.
Gemini Spark Is an AI Agent That Works for You Around the Clock
As mentioned in our Google I/O expectations list, Google has launched Gemini Spark today, bringing a personal AI agent to everyone. It can autonomously carry out tasks given by the user under their direction. It can understand multiple commands at once and work on them actively in the background one by one.
Gemini Spark is powered by the newly announced Gemini 3.5 Flash and Antigravity harness, and it can run 24/7 on dedicated virtual machines in Google Cloud.

This means that Gemini Spark can keep working on its task, even when the device is turned off or the laptop lid is shut, as Google Head Sundar Pichai claims. Once the task is complete, it will send an alert to the user, notifying them of the same.
It will display all the currently running tasks in the background and will work across Google's Workspace apps. This includes Docs, Gmail, Sheets and more. However, third-party app support is also under way. Spark will also come to Google Chrome later this summer, allowing it to take on browser-based tasks.
The big highlight is that Gemini Spark is coming to Apple iPhones and Android devices, and users will be able to sync tasks across devices. It is also set to arrive in the standalone Gemini Mac app later this summer, where it might be able to interact with local files and automate desktop tasks.
Moreover, Spark could also bring support for search agents. This means users will be able to monitor news stories as they develop actively, track stocks, hunt for apartments and more. That said, Google is suggesting that users actively supervise Gemini Spark tasks, especially the sensitive ones.
When Will Gemini Spark be Available?
As far as rollout goes, Gemini Spark will be available first to trusted testers this week and will arrive in beta for US Google AI Ultra subscribers next week. So, US residents with the Google Ultra plan can start testing out Gemini Spark pretty soon.
Google is also restructuring its AI Ultra pricing, as the new plan now starts at $100 per month. However, there is no word on the global rollout of Gemini Spark yet.
