Popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything aka Zack Nelson is at this point a known face when it comes to pushing smartphones to their limits. So, when he picked up the latest folding phone from Google, we expected the "premium" piece of hardware to flaunt its durability muscles throughout. However, it had surprises in store for us.
Pixel 10 Pro Fold went up in smoke during JerryRigEverything's test
As is the case with Zack, he started his video by putting the Pixel 10 Pro Fold through his set of customary tests to show how well it holds up in extreme conditions. While the phone was already showing signs of failure, the biggest mishap happened at exactly the 7 minutes and 30 seconds mark, as it started emitting smoke from the Lithium-ion battery.

Moments later, at around the 7:54 mark, the smartphone's battery was completely fried, with the outer screen burnt to a crisp. The entire fiasco was caught on camera and ever since, the tech world has been buzzing with concerns.

Zack's test revealed an abnormal amount of screen flex and scratching when the Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) was scratched using a fingernail. Even the claim that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the first IP68 rated smartphone crumbled when, during the dust and debrie test, the hinge not only managed to permanently embed a lot of the particles but made a loud creaking noise from the moving gears. It even refused to close fully.
All in all, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold managed to become a colossal failure when it comes to foldable durability. Zach claims that this is the first phone to have exploded during the durability test itself in his 14-year-long career.

Not to mention, the foldable recently went on sale in India for a premium price tag of Rs 1,72,999. At that amount, we expect a phone not to have these sorts of issues. While Google is yet to comment on this, we believe this in itself is a strong enough reason for the brand to take its foldable durability seriously.
Even more so, when options like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the Vivo X Fold 5 and more exists and they did not have any of the above issues during JerryRigEverything's tests.
