April 2026 Pixel Update Includes Security Patches and Bug Fixes

Google announced today via a Pixel help forum post that the April 2026 security patch is now live for Pixel 6 and above Pixel smartphones. Unlike major OS upgrades and quarterly Pixel Drops, this month's update focuses entirely on under-the-hood maintenance and device security.

For starters, according to the latest Android Security Bulletin, the April update addresses many high-severity security vulnerabilities, including those marked as critical. Most notably, it includes fixes for persistent bugs plaguing the system and causing apps and games to crash. Here's the complete changelog:

  • Fix for an issue where the Backup menu was missing from System settings in certain conditions.
  • Fix for an issue that causes certain banking and third-party apps to crash in certain conditions (Pixel 6 to Pixel 8, Pixel Fold, Tablet)
  • Fix for some games to crash in certain conditions
  • Fix for an issue where the quick search bar is sometimes missing from the home screen in certain conditions (Pixel 10)
  • Fix for Quick Share to crash during file transfers in certain conditions (Pixel 9)

Beyond plugging security holes, the update also brings many internal quality-of-life improvements, improving efficiency and performance.

As for the eligible phones, the April 2026 update is rolling across the Pixel ecosystem. The OTA rollout is slated for all eligible Pixel smartphones from the Pixel 6 all the way to the latest Pixel 10. This includes the Pixel Tablet users who are expected to receive the update in the coming days.

As for the next major Android feature drop's arrival, it's expected to arrive sometime in June 2026. The previous one arrived in March and brought new themes, AI-generated icon packs and new At a Glance functionality. Pixel fans looking at the next wave of features will have to wait until June this year.
