The first foldable iPhone hasn't even launched yet but Apple reportedly already has its next two generations planned. The latest details suggest the iPhone Ultra 2 will be a relatively minor upgrade, while the iPhone Ultra 3 could bring larger inner and outer displays when it arrives in 2028.
iPhone Ultra 3 Reportedly Getting Larger Displays
The latest Power On newsletter from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has revealed that the iPhone Ultra 3 will feature larger displays on both the inner and outer screens compared to its predecessors. However, he has not revealed the exact dimensions of the panels.
For context, the first Apple iPhone Ultra is widely expected to bring a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. This is allegedly bringing a passport-like form factor to the first foldable iPhone, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.

Hence, the iPhone Ultra 3's displays would reportedly build on those dimensions, though exactly by how much is unclear at the time of writing. Gurman also notes that the iPhone Ultra 3 is slated for a 2028 launch, hinting at a yearly refresh cycle for the "iPhone Ultra" lineup.
He has also mentioned details for the iPhone Ultra 2, seemingly set for a September 2027 launch. According to the report, the iPhone Ultra 2 will bring incremental upgrades over the first-gen iPhone Ultra. Gurman says the phone is expected to largely reuse the iPhone Ultra's display, making it more of a next-gen refinement than major structural changes.

Based on a recently leaked future iPhone roadmap, we know that Apple has already started working on the iPhone Ultra 2 for next year. As for exactly what the iPhone Ultra 2 and iPhone Ultra 3 will offer, it is too early to tell.
Gurman notes that the first iPhone Ultra's design represents what he called the device's first "truly revolutionary design change." It is also clear that Apple is looking at foldable iPhones as a long-term category rather than a one-off product.
That said, the first-gen iPhone Ultra is currently on schedule to debut in September 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. With an expected price tag above $ 2,000 (approximately Rs 1,91,000), the folding iPhone is rumoured to ship with the A20 processor, a new C2 5G modem, Touch ID and a crease-minimising inner display.
