Nothing is expanding the capabilities of its Essential Space feature with the introduction of cloud storage, addressing a key limitation of the AI-powered tool. The update enables users to back up and sync their captured content across devices, making Essential Space more reliable as a central hub for notes, recordings and quick captures.

Essential Space Gets Cloud Backup and Cross-Device Sync Support

In a post on Nothing Community, the brand has confirmed that Essential Space can now back up and sync user data through a Nothing account. This means all captured content, including notes, screenshots, voice recordings, images, tasks and summaries, can seamlessly stay connected across supported devices.

This update is designed to improve reliability and continuity, especially when users upgrade to other Nothing and CMF phones. With cloud sync enabled, users no longer risk losing their data when switching devices, resetting phones or moving between multiple Nothing devices, as everything can be restored automatically.

Users can access cloud backup controls by navigating to Essential Space -> Profile -> Storage -> Backup, giving them more visibility and control over their stored data.

In terms of availability, the rollout begins immediately but is limited to newer hardware. The feature is being pushed to all 2025 and 2026 Nothing and CMF smartphones that support the Essential Key, meaning older devices may not be eligible. So, those on the Nothing Phone (3), Phone (3a) lineup, Phone (4a) lineup and CMF Phone 2 Pro don't have anything to worry about.

On the privacy front, Nothing notes that the cloud storage system is powered by Google's cloud infrastructure. The company says user data is handled in compliance with GDPR requirements and protected under Google's security standards, with access restricted solely to the account owner.

Additionally, any data captured offline will automatically sync and merge once the device connects to the internet.

With this update, Essential Space takes a step closer to becoming a fully-fledged cross-device productivity platform, addressing one of the most requested features from the community.
