It has not even been six months since the OnePlus 15 debuted and we are already hearing things about the next-gen OnePlus 16. It looks like the brand is reportedly planning a massive photography upgrade for its upcoming flagship, as it is reported to borrow the 200 MP periscope camera from a 2025 Realme flagship phone.
OnePlus 16 Could Borrow Realme GT 8 Pro's 200 MP Camera
A new Weibo post from popular leaker Smart Pikachu suggests that the OnePlus 16 could very well blow fans' minds with a 200 MP periscope telephoto camera. What's interesting is that the upcoming phone could use the 200 MP Samsung HP5 sensor of the Realme GT 8 Pro.
While the tipster has not explicitly name-called the GT 8 Pro, the translated post reads "Realme's 200 MP imaging solution has appeared on OnePlus's list" for the OnePlus 16. The only Realme phone in existence with a 200 MP camera is the GT 8 Pro. Hence, our conclusion.
To recall, the Realmer GT 8 Pro featured a 1/1.4" sensor with 3x optical zoom and up to 6x lossless camera zoom. The 200 MP HP5 camera can even digitally zoom up to 120x. So, in terms of specs, Realme's telephoto camera is clearly better than the 50 MP Samsung JN5 sensor on the OnePlus 15.
What's even more interesting is that a previous OnePlus 16 200 MP camera leak suggested that the upcoming flagship will adopt the 200 MP HP5 periscope camera of the Oppo Find X9 Pro. However, it looks like OnePlus has dropped the idea since it has a 1/1.5" sensor size, which, on paper, is worse than the 1/1.4" sensor of the GT 8 Pro.

Besides cameras, the 2026 OnePlus flagship will also bring other major upgrades. For starters, OnePlus 16 will reportedly sport a 1.5K flat OLED panel with up to a 240Hz refresh rate. Powering the smartphone could be Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset and could be accompanied by LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 4.1 storage.
Battery-wise, it could pack in a significant upgrade with a 9,000mAh capacity and 120W fast USB-C and 50W wireless charging. Haptics are also expected to receive an upgrade with an O916T vibration motor.
Moreover, OnePlus 16 is also expected to bring second-gen upgrades to the DetailMax Camera Engine, which debuted with the OnePlus 15. Aside from that, at the time of writing, it is unclear what more the upcoming phone could offer. It is still expected to keep the 50 MP main and ultra-wide sensors intact.
That said, since this is a leak, take it with a pinch of salt. If OnePlus follows the usual November launch cycle for the OnePlus 16, we still have plenty of months left for more concrete details to emerge. So, stay tuned.
