While smartphone makers continue to push flagship charging well beyond 50W, the Galaxy S27 and S27+ could arrive in 2027 with the same 25W and 45W limits that Samsung has used for years.
Spotted by tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) on X, the vanilla Samsung Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27+ have been listed on China's 3C certification database website. The listing, dated September 1, 2026, covers two model numbers:
- Galaxy S27 (SM-S9520): 25W wired charging
- Galaxy S27+ (SM-S9560): 45W wired charging
The base Galaxy S27 is listed at 9.0V / 2.77A, which is equivalent to approximately 25W, while the Plus variant shows 15.0V / 3.0A, or equivalent to 45W. If true, this will be vastly disappointing for fans hoping for a wired charging speed upgrade with the upcoming Galaxy phones.
Samsung has kept the standard S-series model at 25W since the Galaxy S20, which launched way back in 2020. This makes 2027 the seventh consecutive year the South Korean brand has shipped a new phone with zero upgrades to the charging speeds.
As for the Galaxy S27+, it could become the fifth consecutive phone to ship with 45W charging, which is unchanged since the Galaxy S22+ in 2022.
Given the 2026 and 2027 standards, 25W and 45W charging speeds on flagship phones are very slow. For context, in our Samsung Galaxy S26 review, we noted that the phone takes roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes to go from 0 to 100%. The result was achieved using Samsung's own 60W adapter and a battery capacity of 4,300mAh.
Galaxy S27 Series Could Pack Bigger Batteries
Samsung is expected to bring silicon-carbon batteries to the "Galaxy S" lineup next year. The brand first used a silicon-carbon battery with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Galaxy S27 Ultra is tipped to have a 5,700mAh battery. There is also a possibility that the standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ will get a battery bump next year.
Hence, to fill a bigger battery, the same charging speed will lead to higher charge time. That said, the Galaxy S27 Ultra did not appear in this 3C listing, so its charging speed is still unknown.
There is also no guarantee that these are the final values, so take them with a pinch of salt. The Galaxy S27 series is expected to launch in February 2027. Next year, we might also see a new Galaxy S27 Pro model in the mix. So, stay tuned for all the updates.
