The ongoing RAM crisis has already pushed up smartphone prices across the board this year. Now, it looks like it could hit Samsung’s next flagships in a different way. According to a new report, the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ could start with less RAM for the first time.
Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ Tipped to Start with Lower RAM
The information comes from tipster @kro_roe on X, who claims that the Samsung Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27+ could now start with just 8 GB of RAM, with 12 GB saved for the higher-storage variants only.
For context, Samsung has offered at least 12 GB of RAM on the base "Galaxy S" model since the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S26 kept it that way.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S27 Pro and the Galaxy S27 Ultra are tipped to stick with 12 GB of RAM as standard. The Ultra will also reportedly get a 16 GB RAM option with 1 TB of storage. Here’s a quick look at the leaked configurations:
| Model | Leaked RAM + Storage Variants |
|---|---|
| Galaxy S27 | 8 GB + 256 GB | 12 GB + 512 GB |
| Galaxy S27+ | 8 GB + 256 GB | 12 GB + 512 GB |
| Galaxy S27 Pro | 12 GB + 256 GB | 12 GB + 512 GB (16 GB under consideration) |
| Galaxy S27 Ultra | 12 GB + 256 GB | 12 GB + 512 GB | 16 GB + 1 TB |
From the above table, it looks like Samsung will stick to 256 GB of base storage, which is a good thing. However, the leaker claims that the brand could use different UFS storage versions on different models to save costs.

Galaxy S27 Might Still Get Price Hikes
Now, it is clear that the soaring cost of RAM is the primary reason behind cutting RAM in the base models of the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+. However, this might not mean a positive effect on the prices of the 2027 flagships.
The tipster says price hikes “may be unavoidable” for the Galaxy S27 series. Samsung may also skip popular pre-order offers like free storage upgrades this time. That’s a big deal for Indian buyers, who usually get these offers during pre-bookings.

Samsung isn’t the only one. A separate Weibo leak claims several Android brands are planning to cap their flagships at 12 GB RAM. Mid-range phones could drop to 8 GB, while many budget phones could go back to just 4 GB RAM.
The Galaxy S27 series is reportedly set to launch in January 2027, but it could slip to February 2027. So, take this leak with a pinch of salt until then. Meanwhile, you can keep track of all the latest phone price changes with our India smartphone price hike tracker.
