Samsung at its Galaxy Unpacked event today, on July 9, 2025, announced the arrival of the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Watch 8 Classic globally and in India. The new Galaxy Watch lineup has an interesting new "cushion" design with standout features like a rotating dial, Sapphire Crystal glass, Galaxy AI health and wellness features, and more. Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic Similarities
Starting with the build quality and design, both smartwatches feature a squircle stainless casing dubbed "cushion design". It features a dual microphone array with an in-built speaker on the left side of the watch. There is the power button and the Quick Action button on the righthand side of the smartwatch.

The circular Super AMOLED display on both watches is protected by Sapphire Crystal Glass and can go up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. Under the hood, both the Watch 8 models are powered by the Samsung Exynos W200 chipset and feature 2 GB of RAM.
Even in terms of the sensors, both smartwatches are equipped with a brand-new antioxidant measuring index sensor that can track the body's fruit and vegetable intake. Samsung claims that this new sensor will prevent premature ageing and the risk of major health ailments in the future. A higher score will indicate a better overall diet and vice versa.

Apart from this, the watches also get a Light sensor, a Geomagnetic sensor, an Accelerometer, a Barometer, a BioActive sensor, BP & ECG monitoring, AGE detection, Skin Temperature measurement, SpO2 and Heart Rate monitoring, a Gyroscope and sleep apnea detection.
Samsung is further supercharging the Galaxy Watch 8 series with nifty Galaxy AI features. For instance, there are AI-based health reports that will be able to generate a daily score based on the overall health parameters of the user.

The Galaxy Watch 8 series is also getting the Now Brief daily report that had been exclusive to Samsung smartphones until now. Both Android and iOS users will be able to connect to the Samsung Health app to use the smartwatches with their Android smartphones and iPhones.
Speaking of the software, both smartwatches run on One UI 8 based on Wear OS 6.0 and Android 16. There are several nifty UI elements and features within One UI 8, like quick reply suggestions, workout modes, pinch controls and more. It also offers several health and wellness-specific widgets and multiple at-a-glance watch faces.

Lastly, on the connectivity front, both smartwatches feature Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 2.4+5 GHz and NFC. Both smartwatches are IP68 rated with up to 5 meters of water resistance.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic Differences
Talking about what is different between the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, in terms of design, the Watch 8 Classic sees the return of the brand's iconic rotating bezel. Meanwhile, Samsung claims that the Galaxy Watch 8 is its thinnest smartwatch yet.

The Galaxy Watch 8 is available in 40mm and 44mm variants. The Watch 8 Classic, on the other hand, comes in the sole 46mm option. In terms of the display size, the Watch 8 features a 1.47-inch screen (44mm) and a 1.34-inch (40mm) respectively. Meanwhile, the Watch 8 Classic has a 1.34-inch screen to offer.
In terms of the battery capacity, the Watch 8 Classic is equipped with a 445mAh cell. Meanwhile, the Watch 8 comes with up to a 435mAh battery (40mm - 325mAh and 44mm - 435mAh).

Apart from this, the Watch 8 features 32 GB of on-board storage and the Watch 8 Classic offers 64 GB of non-expandable storage.

The Galaxy Watch 8 starts from $349 (approximately Rs 30,000). Meanwhile, the Watch 8 Classic will be available to purchase for $499 (approximately Rs 42,500).
In terms of the colour options, the Galaxy Watch 8 will be available to purchase in Silver and Graphite. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic will come in the Black and White colourways.
