Summary

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 could feature a new display technology called Montflex.
  • It's expected to offer better durability, less visible creases and slimmer bezels for an immersive experience.
  • Samsung is all set to showcase Montflex at a Display Industry exhibition in Korea on August 7, 2025.

Samsung could use a new display technology in its Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 series, further improving the panels on its foldables.

The tech giant is all set to showcase Montflex at a Display Industry exhibition in Korea on August 7 2025. While the firm hasn't directly revealed the first devices that will arrive this display, we expect the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 to feature it first.

Talking about the new display technology, Samsung Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Display Marketing, Jae-Nam Yun, said,

Since beginning mass production of foldable OLEDs in 2019, we have continued to drive technological innovation to perfect the product, becoming the first in the industry to apply UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) and LEAD, a polariser-free OCF technology, to foldables.

The "Mont" in Montflex means mountain in French, and the firm claims it "represents the pinnacle of foldable innovation and embodies the company’s drive for the perfect foldable panel." Besides, each letter in the word highlights a key trait about the display.

The word M means mechanically durable, and O represents opto-mechanically flat, with a less visible crease. N stands for narrow bezels, while T stands for thin and lightweight.

All in all, this could mean that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may deliver a smoother, more immersive experience while being thinner than the Z Fold 7. The technology might not be limited to Samsung phones only, as the firm is expected to ship foldable panels to Apple for next year's foldable iPhone.

Samsung markets the Galaxy Z Fold 7's display as capable of withstanding over 5,00,000 folds. With better durability and a more immersive display experience, Montflex displays could further boost the adoption of foldable phones.

Not much is known about the Galaxy Z Fold 8 besides that Samsung might drop the Titanium build for carbon-fibre reinforced plastic to cut down on costs. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 launch is still far away, but stay tuned as we will cover any new information that pops up.
