Earlier this year, Samsung removed the OneDrive integration from its native Gallery app, leaving users in limbo. Now, the brand has confirmed that Google Photos will replace OneDrive in the Gallery, and syncing to OneDrive will completely stop later this month.

An update to Samsung's "Gallery Cloud Sync" app now confirms the replacement. Samsung describes it as backing up photos, videos and albums to the cloud with multi-device sync, so images taken on Samsung Galaxy phones appear on Galaxy tablets immediately. This confirms ecosystem cross-device syncing.

Samsung's own wording refers to it as "Google Cloud", which is slightly misleading. The Samsung Gallery app will directly sync with Google Photos instead of giving users the preference to choose between OneDrive and Google Photos. This makes this a permanent and non-negotiable "Sync with Google" integration.

With Google Photos support, the Samsung Gallery app will gain three features: the ability to view available storage inside the Gallery app, the ability to choose which albums get synced and control over what data conditions must be met before syncing runs.

Samsung says both the Gallery Cloud Sync app and Samsung Cloud need to be updated. Beyond that, a Gallery app update or possibly a full system update appears to be required before the feature works properly.

Google's own support documentation does not yet list Samsung, which suggests the rollout is still in progress. Existing OneDrive users can keep syncing photos through Samsung Gallery until September 30, 2026. After that, the integration stops.
