Samsung has introduced a new AI-powered camera feature called My FanCam on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. It's inspired by "fan cams," or jik-kaem, a K-pop fandom format where fans record close-up footage focused on a single group member during a live performance.

My FanCam comes as part of the new Galaxy AI-powered One UI 9 features and lives inside the Gallery app rather than the camera itself, so it works on videos you've already recorded. Galaxy AI scans the footage, detects the people in frame, and lets you tap the one you want to follow.

Next, it automatically crops and reframes the entire clip around that subject, keeping them centred no matter how much they move. Users can export the result in horizontal or vertical layouts across multiple aspect ratios, including 1:1, 3:4, 9:16, 2:3, 3:5, 4:5, and 5:7.

The feature isn't flawless, since digitally cropping into existing footage makes the output look slightly softer than the original recording. However, it's well-suited for quickly turning concert clips or event recordings into shareable content.

My FanCam is currently limited to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The brand hasn't confirmed which older Samsung Galaxy phones will get the feature. But the feature has already appeared in an early One UI 9 build for the Galaxy S25 Plus (via SamMobile), suggesting a broader rollout soon.

Fan cams as a cultural phenomenon are widely traced back to a 2014 video of EXID member Hani, which has since racked up tens of millions of views. It gradually helped turn the format into a mainstream element of how K-pop fans document their favourite idols.

Interestingly, the feature's connection to K-pop isn't exactly coincidental either. Ahead of Unpacked, BTS member J-Hope reportedly leaked a glimpse of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 through his own Instagram. So, there's certainly some collaboration at play here.
