Truecaller has long been a popular choice in India for identifying unknown callers and blocking spam calls. However, the full app can feel heavy on budget phones with limited storage and memory. To address this, Truecaller Lite has launched in India as a smaller app designed to offer the same essential protection without demanding as many resources.
Truecaller Lite Benefits and Features
Truecaller Lite is a separate, native Android app and it's not a toned-down version of the main Truecaller app. The app is only 10 MB in size and is designed for phones with limited storage and memory. The company says it runs smoothly on phones with up to 4 GB of RAM.
Truecaller first launched the Lite app in Nigeria and Colombia earlier this year. In June 2026, the app expanded to markets such as Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Egypt and Malaysia. India is finally getting it now.
Truecaller says the Lite app uses the same spam database, detection systems and privacy standards as the main app. So users will get the same level of spam and fraud protection in a much smaller package.
That said, here’s what you get with Truecaller Lite:
- Caller ID: Shows who is calling before you answer.
- Spam and fraud blocking: Blocks unwanted calls using signals from Truecaller’s global community.
- Dialer: Includes call history, contacts and number search.
- After-call screen: Shows who you recently spoke to, for both incoming and outgoing calls.
Speaking about the launch, Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala said, “Scammers don’t check what phone you have before they call, and protection should not depend on it either.” He added that Truecaller Lite is “the same protection from spam and fraud, in an app small enough to fit.”
Moreover, this comes just days before India makes caller name display mandatory on 4G and 5G networks. CNAP will start showing the caller’s registered name on incoming calls from November 1, 2026. However, CNAP uses names from telecom records and won’t block spam calls on its own. That’s where apps like Truecaller Lite can still help.
Truecaller Lite is free to download from the Google Play Store in India. Since it’s rolling out in phases, it may take a few weeks to show up for everyone. That said, you can also check out our guide on how to block spam calls on Android for more ways to keep unwanted calls away.
