2026 seems to be the year that will standardise 200 MP cameras. We recently learned about that the Redmi K100 series potentially adopting 200 MP cameras, and Vivo appears to be cooking up a camera upgrade to its X Fold 6 foldable as well. Combined with the Zeiss optics, the X Fold 6 could potentially offer the best camera experience on a foldable smartphone.

Vivo X Fold 6 Could Pack in More Megapixels

The information comes from Smart Pikachu on Weibo, suggesting that the Vivo X Fold 6 could be the most "imaging-focused foldable " to date, with a higher resolution 200 MP snapper. For those unaware, its predecessor, the Vivo X Fold 5, boasted a 50 MP main camera.

It remains unclear if this sensor will serve as the main shooter or a high-res periscope telephoto. However, Vivo could pair it with a Multispectral Sensor to ensure more accurate colours. This sensor is found in the likes of the Vivo X300 and X300 Pro.

The potential make of the 200 MP sensor is also unknown, but considering Vivo uses Samsung sensors on the X300 series, the X Fold 6 could also use a Samsung sensor, particularly the HPB sensor. If that stands, it's possible that the 200 MP sensor could be fused with a periscope lens, just like on the Vivo X300 Pro.

The Vivo X Fold 6 recently surfaced on the GSMA IMEI database with three models, suggesting Vivo could release it both in China and globally. Information about its potential launch date is scarce, but rumours point to a Q2 2026 launch. Similarly, it's too soon to talk about the exact specifications of the upcoming foldable.

That said, the Vivo X Fold 5 came with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, so we expect the X Fold 6 to feature Snapdragon 8 Elite or Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Besides camera upgrades, the Vivo X Fold 5 could also increase the battery capacity to a potential 6,500mAh or 6,800mAh, while retaining its slimness.

The Vivo X Fold 5 launched in July 2025, so we expect the X Fold 6 to land at around the same time. With Oppo Find N6 specifications tipped and Samsung and Apple prepping their own foldables, the race for book-style foldables is heating up tremendously.
