Vivo has officially taken the wraps off OriginOS 7 at its developer conference in China. The Android 17-based UI brings several visual improvements, including a new Liquid Glass-like design, heavily leaning into translucent layers, dynamic lighting and more customisations.

The main highlight of OriginOS 7 centres around its Premium Texture engine. Users can choose between three distinct blur styles – Realistic, Natural and Soft. The Realistic look delivers a full Liquid Glass-like experience, while the Natural and Soft settings bring a slightly frosted and standard blur.

That said, these elements are highly reactive. For starters, the folders dynamically shift their lighting and colour when dragged across the screen. The lock screen keypad numbers enlarge with glass effects, and buttons boast a ripple effect when touched.

Besides, OriginOS 7 also gets interactive Wallpapers and Lock Screens, including other personalisation options. This includes a new Wiggle animation that injects a liquid-like, wobbly physics effect into designated parts of a wallpaper. Users can manually draw the affected areas or let the software apply presets.

Features like Flip Cards shuffle through personal album photos when the phone is tilted, while Glint alters the lighting and texture of the background based on device movement.

Then there's a breathing floral animation which utilises shifting shadows to create a gentle look. Finally, a new Origin Sticker tool allows users to extract subjects from photos and place them directly on the home screen alongside colourful cut-outs.

Coming to the Control Centre, OriginOS 7 completely drops its previous rigid layout for a more customisable panel, letting users reorganise the panel, resize individual Quick Settings tiles, and apply custom themes.

Meanwhile, a newly redesigned OriginPlayer that was previously exclusive to Tencent’s QQ Music is finally bringing full-screen lock screen media controls to other supported audio apps.

For productivity, Vivo is porting the "Atomic Workbench" from its foldable lineup directly to standard smartphones, enabling users to dock multiple active apps along the screen's edges. The Super Pocket feature also receives a visual refresh, moving from a free-scrolling layout to a stacked card design.

Beneath all the new paint, Vivo also promises efficiency and performance improvements. The brand claims OriginOS 7 delivers a 19% boost in page-switching speed, 14% faster visual rendering, and 12% faster app launch times, all while reducing animation power consumption by 20%.

Beyond the Liquid Glass aesthetics and customisations, OriginOS 7 also brings a host of AI features. These include an AI file manager that intelligently manages files and AI in the Calendar app that enables smarter management. Beyond that, the release also includes smart speaker labelling in its Recorder app.

Vivo is also integrating AI into its health app. The app will display personalised suggestions based on user habits to help users lead healthier lives. Lastly, Vivo's dictation input method is now AI-powered for a seamless dictation experience.
