WhatsApp Group Chats Get Smarter with Member Tags, Text Stickers, and Reminders

WhatsApp has announced a new set of features aimed at making group chats more organised, expressive and easier to follow. The WhatsApp group chat updates include member tags, text-based stickers and enhanced event reminders, all designed to improve communication in busy group conversations. 

New WhatsApp Group Chat features

The most notable addition is WhatsApp group chat member tags, which allow users to assign themselves a label within a specific group. These tags help identify roles or context, for example, "Project Lead" in a work group or "Rahul's Mom" in a school group. This makes it easier for members to understand who's who, especially in large chats. Also, the tags are group-specific and can be updated at any time. 

WhatsApp is also expanding its creative tools with text stickers. Users can now instantly turn typed text into stickers via the sticker search option. These text stickers can also be customised and saved directly to sticker packs, making it faster to create and reuse expressive messages without relying on third-party apps. 

Another key WhatsApp Group Chat feature is group events. When creating an event inside a group chat, users can now set early reminders for participants. It ensures members receive notifications ahead of time, reducing the chances of missed meetings, calls, etc. 

According to WhatsApp, these WhatsApp Group Chat feature updates are part of its ongoing effort to make group chats more contextual and engaging, building on existing features like HD media sharing, large file support and group voice chats. The new tools are rolling out gradually to users on Android, iOS and WhatsApp Web.
