Xiaomi’s Ultra series have always challenged the smartphone photography norms year-over-year by bringing the best camera hardware that fits inside a smartphone chassis. We saw the same with the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and now, the upcoming Xiaomi 16 Ultra is in-line to carry forward the same mantra, albeit differently.
Fellow tech publication Smartprix reports exclusively that the upcoming Xiaomi 16 Ultra flagship will see the departure of the quad camera setup that we saw till the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. It is expected to bring a triple rear camera setup this time around.
The report indicates a new ultra-wide cum periscope camera sensor that will likely infuse the 50 MP 3x periscope camera that we saw with the Xiaomi 15, with the 50 MP 115˚ultra-wide angle lens. However, the details of this new sensor are yet to be out, along with the megapixel value.

Apart from this, Xiaomi will not change much with the other two camera lenses. The Xiaomi 16 Ultra could feature the same 50 MP Sony LYT-900 1.0-inch sensor along with the familiar 200 MP Samsung ISOCELL HP9 periscope telephoto camera module.
Expect the device to carry forward Xiaomi's partnership with Leica, with the VARIO-SUMMILUX 1:1.63-2.6/14-100 ASPH module just like the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. It could also bring Leica-specific features like Pro presets, Leica colour science and Leica camera inspired back panel.
With that said, the Xiaomi 16 Ultra is yet to leak properly, revealing its key details and other information. However, just like the 15 Ultra, we can expect the upcoming Xiaomi Ultra to bear the same flagship-grade specs like a WQHD+ LTPO AMOLED panel, the second generation of Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and more.
